My Spring Makeup Routine

One of my favorite things about how French woman approach beauty is the minimal approach to makeup.  I’ve never loved how I look with a fully made up face and tend to lean toward natural looking beauty with a small statement element like a bold red lip or black liner.  I’m a makeup loyalist and tend to stick to my tried and true favorite products like these but once I found out I was pregnant, I felt like I needed to move toward cleaner, more natural products.

Fortunately, writing about beauty for Anthropologie provided me with an amazing education in natural beauty since I was able to pick our beauty buyer’s brains, talk directly to the brands, and research all the ingredients before writing about the products.  I fell in love with a few natural beauty brands like W3ll People, Juice Beauty and Wander Beauty in my search for natural makeup that still does all the legwork I require of my products and I’m excited to share some of my favorites with you!

Since I suffered from breakouts from when I was thirteen pretty much up until I got pregnant (thank you pregnancy!), I’m super sensitive about having a flawless looking face and I won’t compromise on natural looking coverage.  I’ve been loving Supergoop’s CC Cream and everyone I’ve recommended it to has had nothing but positive reviews.  It’s packed with sunscreen, minerals and Omega 3 and 6.  I finish with Wander Beauty Wanderlust Powder Foundation.  I have never had a powder look so natural and make my skin look flawless.  It actually provides enough coverage that I have completely stopped wearing foundation.

I use W3ll People’s Bio Correcting Multi-Action Concealer and I LOVE it.  It has a light mousse texture and is packed with organic algae, coffee, pomegranate, and anti-aging peptides that have actually helped reduce the problems in the areas I’m covering (goodbye dark circles and weird red areas!).

I’m loving Make Beauty Solstice Bronzer since it combines several different shades for a more natural looking bronze, especially in the pale days of winter.  I still swear by Nars Blush in orgasm – I have tried natural products that I’ve really liked, especially W3ll People’s Universalist Multi-Stick (goes on super smooth and satiny), but I’ll be wearing Nars forever.

When I’m finished applying all my face makeup, I sweep on my W3LL PEOPLE Realist Invisible Setting Powder for a soft focus look that I love in photos.

I had the most difficulty finding natural eye products that I love and at the end of the day, I need my makeup to perform so I didn’t completely convert to natural products in this arena.  I’m loving Trish McEvoy’s High Volume Mascara, it actually coats your lashes with little tubes so rinsing doesn’t leave ANY residue (super important if you have darker undereye circles!) and it never smudges.  I’m a huge fan.

I’ve been using the Juice Beauty Phyto-pigments Precision Eye Pencil when I want a more natural looking liner.  I still swear by Urban Decay’s Naked Palette in both the original and the Naked2. When I just want a quick swipe of shimmer, I’ll use the Juice Beauty Cream Shadow Stick which is ultra-moisturizing and goes on really smooth.

For everyday lips, I’ve been alternating between Juice Beauty Phyto-pigments Sheer Lip Gloss and W3LL PEOPLE Bio Extreme Lipgloss when I want a little more saturated color.  For lipstick, I’ve been using Juice Beauty Satin Lip Cream – I love Sonoma and Syrah.

Next week I’ll be sharing my pregnancy skincare routine so stay tuned!
