The next stop on our journey to fashion’s most iconic cities, in collaboration with Farfetch, is London. One of my favorite cities in the world, London is a major fashion player thanks to iconic brands with strong ties to history and luxury like Burberry and Barbour, new brands with major punk influences like Vivienne Westwood, and the fast fashion empire Top Shop.
When styling my look, I thought about the major influencers in British fashion. My fiancé actually walked into the room while I was staring into my closet dressed in my Burberry trench whispering, “Spice Girls, Victoria Beckham, Adele, Kate Middleton…” followed by a louder exclamation of, “TWIGGY, MOD…SILVER PUMPS!”
That really sums it up for me. Take a classic, structured, and sporty Burberry trench coat, made popular during World War I, and pair it with slightly trippy, sexy mirrored silver pumps in a classic pointed toe silhouette, with a sheer blush blouse for a ladylike element, and finish the look with an updated satchel. This fusion of classic and modern is really what London’s fashion scene is all about. It makes London a veritable breeding ground for designers seeking to build on a solid fashion foundation while innovating in all manners of shimmer and prints. Although many people look to Paris and New York for nascent fashion trends, you’d be surprised how many style innovations call London their birthplace.
Now go forth, and try on some British style!
